If it’s something exotic you crave for a special night out, Curry Mantra in Orangeville offers authentic Indian cuisine in a nicely appointed dining room.

The restaurant is celebrating one year in business and is enjoying a lot of success as people tell their friends about this new restaurant that features a menu of delicious entrées and more, based on the flavour of northern India.

The restaurant is unique in catering to the tastes of individual customers.

“We are from the north of India, the Punjab, so that’s where our cuisine comes from,” explained restaurant manager, Jeet Singh.

Punjabi cuisine is largely based on the climate of the region. A combination of oils and spices are used to create the unique flavor.

“When you make curry there are seven or eight different spices used to create it,” Mr. Singh explained, adding that Orangeville had a need for a restaurant with authentic Indian food. “There was a need for a restaurant that serves authentic Indian food with those kind of spices and recipes. For our customers there is the Indian version and the Canadian version of Indian food. There was a need and we filled that need.”

Many people who have never tried Indian food aren’t sure what to order the first time the visit Curry Mantra.

Jeet and his staff guide patrons through the menu offering suggestions. Currently the most popular dish on the menu is butter chicken. They also features dishes with lamb, goat, and fish on the menu.

“A lot of people ask us for recommendations,” Mr. Singh said. “We help them navigate through the menu and ask them questions about what they like. We also ask them what the spice level is that they can handle. If they like very mild, then we will recommend something. Others like more spice in their food and some like very spicy food. All our food is ala carte. We can adapt and custom make the chicken.”

The menu at Curry Mantra has become so popular that a large portion of their orders come in as home deliveries. They also have a catering service and offer their services on location.

A glance at the menu reveals an assortment of delicious entrees and side dishes.

“Our first year has been very good,” Mr. Singh said of the anniversary. “The community has supported us a lot. We have had very good feedback. Orangeville is very community based so many people come here because of word of mouth. I’m very thankful to the community.”

Curry Mantra is a great place for lunch or dinner or a special night out with friends.

The dining room is pleasant with tables for small groups and comfortable booths for up to six people. For larger groups call ahead and you can easily be accommodated.
