It is a 1950’s nostalgia diner with booths for patrons, images of music icons on the walls, and even table-side juke boxes.

Wimpy’s Diner in Orangeville has a lot of character.

New owner Sridar brings out Wimpy’s Famous Burger – the largest burger in Orangeville – in fact it’s the largest burger in the region and is the size of two normal hamburger patties with all the trimmings.

While burgers may be the restaurant’s specialty – if you don’t already get the connection to the restaurant’s namesake – the menu is varied with daily specials including All You Can Eat Pancake Tuesdays, All You Can Eat Fish and Chip Fridays, and the popular Pasta Special on Thursdays.

With new ownership comes new management, and Sridar brings 30 years of experience working in five-star hotels in India, the U.S. and Canada, to the table.

The Wimpy’s franchise goes way back to 1960 and there are currently over 60 restaurants in Canada and they are still expanding.

“My motto for the restaurant is Quality, Consistency, Quantity, and Service,” Sridar explained. “This is not a fast food restaurant. We make everything from scratch.”

After several decades working in the industry, Sridar decided it was time to bring his knowledge and experience to his own restaurant. He purchased Wimpy’s Diner in June.

He decided that the growing town of Orangeville made a good fit for his vision of a successful restaurant.

“Orangeville is a growing place with a lot of potential and our mayor is really promoting new business and entrepreneurship. There are new houses being built with many people coming here. It’s growing and there is a lot of real potential in Orangeville.”

He surveyed the town and the restaurant from a business perspective. The combination of growth, a vibrant business economy, and the fact that many people from the outlying areas routinely visit Orangeville, made the town a logical choice for a restaurant.

He likes the town so much he is planning on buying a house here and calling Orangeville his permanent home.

Sridar is eager to let people in town know that the restaurant is under new management and under his guidance the quality of the food and service will reflect his many years of experience in the service industry.

“We will continue to have our regular specials,” he said, mentioning one of the specialties being smoke salmon with eggs benedict, which has become very popular.

Wimpy’s Diner is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Wimpy’s Orangeville restaurant is located at 400 Town Line.
