Orangeville Police charged a Mildmay man with Impaired Driving after a citizen reported an erratic driver on Townline early Sunday morning.
On Sunday, July 29, at 12:10 a.m., Orangeville Police were called by a citizen who was following a red Dodge Caravan on Townline. The citizen described the vehicle as operating in an erratic manner.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle eventually pulled over but started to drive away when an officer approached the van. The officer managed to reach into the open driver side window and shut the vehicle off.
Michael Earl Potter, 55, of Mildmay, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and refusing to provide a breath sample. He was eventually released from custody and is scheduled to appear in count in Orangeville on August 14, to answer to the allegations.
As well, his driver's licence was suspended for a mandatory 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
Police probe early morning robbery
Orangeville Police are investigating a robbery that took place at a Townline convenience store just before 3:00 Monday morning.
At 2:56 a.m., officers received a report of a robbery at the Circle K Convenience Store at 400 Townline. A store employee had called 911 after a male entered the store asking the employee to make change from a $5 bill.
The employee said that when the cash register was opened, the man jumped behind the counter pushing the clerk aside. At the same time, a female entered the store and began striking items on the counter while demanding that the clerk turn over the money in the cash register. The two left the store with the cash tray and fled the area in a silver sedan. Their last direction of travel is unknown.
The male suspect is described as white, 5'10 to six feet, slim build, hazel eyes, with teardrop tattoos beside each eye, short dark brown hair wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.
The female is described as white, 5'4” to 5'6”, with long blonde hair, medium build, wearing a dark jacket with a hood.
Police are continuing their investigation and would like to speak with anyone who has information regarding this incident.

OPP targeting distracted drivers
Members of the Dufferin OPP will be focusing on distracted driving enforcement over the August Civic Holiday weekend, from Saturday, August 4 to Monday, August 7 inclusive.
The detachment said in a news release that the officers will also be targeting excessive speed, stunt driving and seatbelt compliance.
“The OPP would like the public to think of all the families traveling across and through our County this weekend and allow more time to get to your destination. Take regular break.”
All traffic complaints should be forwarded to the OPP Provincial Communications Centre at 1-888-310-1122.
“Please don't put our officers in a position where they have to make notifications to family that motorists and passengers are seriously injured from collisions on our roadways.”
